Childhood and the city: the socialization processes of children

Abstract:

This article presents partial results of a research in development at the Doctorate in Education of the State University of Londrina, whose main objective is to know how children understand the city in which they live. The methodology used is action research. The researcher follows a group of 49 children from a public school in Londrina during the first three years of elementary school. The analysis focuses on the spaces portrayed by the children in the drawings and, although preliminary, point out places they pass by, such as houses, recreational areas, and downtown area. The theoretical framework is anchored in studies of Childhood Sociology and the study of the city.
