This paper is intended to allow further comparative contributions regarding the Neotropical lycaenid butterflies. Hemiargus hanno (Stoll, 1790) is chosen as first Neotropical polyommatine to be described in detail. This butterfly is a common species in many open weedy areas, pastures, and fields, widely distributed from southern Texas and Central America to Argentina. Line drawings and SEM photographs are provided.
