The plasma viral load test for HIV-1,a exquisitely high sensitive assay, were neither developed nor evaluated for the diagnosis of primary HIV infection; therefore, their diagnostic specificity is not well delineated when applied to persons who are negative for HIV antibody. This article reported four cases of false positive results obtained by using NucliSens viral load assay (Organon Teknika) and emphasize the importance that low positive plasma viral load (< 10 000 copies/ml) may be difficult to interpret how has been assinalated in numerous articles in the medical literature, using other methodologies.
