Applicability of multicriteria analysis to decision problems in road transport of dangerous goods: a theoretical perspective

The aim of this study is to analyze the application of tools from AMD in the process of decision making involving the activities of road transport of dangerous goods. The theoretical frame of reference covers: Theory of Multicriteria Decision Aid, including the classification of multicriteria problems and elementary steps of the decision process, the risks in road transport of dangerous goods and the need for making accurate decisions, and the interrelationship between types of decision problems in this type of transport tools and multicriteria. The methodology used in making the work was exploratory in nature, basing themselves on literature and operational practices of the market. The survey results showed that, while the tools available for analyzing multi-criteria are important to support the processes of decision making, there is not a action dictates best, but a compromise solution that depends heavily on profiles and personalities of the actors, the circumstances underlying the process of decision-making on how the problem is presented, the information available at the time of need decision-making and the method used to support the problem.
