The topic of this paper is Bayle´s interpretation of ancient scepticism: its characteristics, its origin and the distinction between pyrrhonism and academic scepticism. Some important aspects of scepticism are also discussed: its conception of science, its conduct in practical life and its attitude concerning religion.
