This paper analyzes Montaigne's concept of "faith", in comparison with the concepts of "reason" and "belief", and in relation to the place assigned to authority by the author of the Essays. The paper mainly discusses the traditional interpretation's claim that Montaigne's skepticism would reduce faith to the sphere of customs and beliefs.
