IDEOLOGIES OF THE CHILEAN TRANSITION UNDERLYING THE PRESIDENTIAL SPEECHES OF THE POST-DICTATORSHIP

Abstract

This article asks about which ideologies are built in the Chilean transition. Thereunto, a critical analysis of the presidential discourses presented by the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions is carried out, analyzing how they promoted ideologies through symbolic-discursive constructions. The results show three imaginaries used: reconciliation, the past and the closure of the human rights problem. According to the concepts of ideology, ideological discursive formation and social practices, the beliefs that discourses want to internalize in post-dictatorship society about practices and semiosis are discussed. It is concluded that the presidential speeches promoted the citizenship to recognize the existence of the dictatorship and its perpetrations, but to focus on the future and not in the past, accepting that the dictatorship has ended and the transition is over.
