THE NEWSPAPER GENRES: WHAT DOES THE BRAZILIAN LITERATURE IN THE AREA OF COMMUNICATIONS HAVE TO SAY?

Abstract

The present article tries to establish a tentative inventory of the genres that circulate in Brazilian newspapers. Our interest was to determine how the notion of genre has been treated in the theoretical and practical literature of the field of communication and, from there, to map the genres cited as representative of this social environment. The literature in the area indicates that the notion of genre is far from clear and that there is great divergence among the terms used, which, however, constitutes in itself rich research material.
