ADVERBIAL ARTICULATION IN RELIGIOUS DISCOURSE

Abstract

This paper presents a survey, description and interpretative analysis of the use of adverbs of place and time/aspect in religious texts of the current synchrony, and of the archaic period of the Portuguese language. Based on the functionalism theory, the research about adverbs of place focuses on issues related to the ordering, polysemy, variation and grammaticalization of these constituents, as well as on the competition among them for the discursive characterization of the works researched. As regards adverbs of time/aspect, the study focuses mainly on issues related to structural pressures.
