To be or not to be "country of the future", that is a discursive question

Abstract:

In this article, we analyze Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's pronouncement about the statement "Brazil, a country of the future", which is seen as constituent of the national imaginary. Based on the discourse analysis orientation of Michel Pêcheux, we investigate the memory and also the sense relationships that emerge from the enunciation. Bringing reflections from Orlandi (2012______. Interpretação: autoria, leitura e efeitos do trabalho simbólico. 6. ed. Campinas, SP: Pontes, 2012.) about gesture interpretations and Castoriadis (1987CASTORIADIS, C. Reflexões sobre o "desenvolvimento" e a "racionalidade". In: ______. As encruzilhadas do labirinto II - domínios do homem. Tradução de José Oscar de Almeida Marques. Rio de Janeiro: Paz e Terra, 1987.) about the development as imaginary signification. We present that when the discourse, replies to the supposed negative image about the country created by the enunciation it perpetuates such representation. Therefore, the sense goes to one direction (politics).
