Abstract
From the perspective of metaphor in discourse (DEIGNAN, 2005; STEEN, 2007; MÜLLER, 2008), this study introduces a tool for systematic and sound analyses of metaphoricity in discourse. Based on the notion of metaphoricity as the possibility of metaphor recognition, it adopts the concept of activation device (MÜLLER, 2008) as a key element for determining this property, and discourse genre, on the other hand, as its main analytical basis (DIENSTBACH, 2017). This study puts forward the devices of its analytical tool next to examples drawn from texts identified with different genres. Finally, it addresses issues related to this method that remain inconclusive, as well as studies and tasks that could somehow benefit from it.
