The Feuilleton’s Characters: Stereotypes and Language

Abstract

This article aimed at analyzing the social function of the roman-feuilleton genre, in the pocket-book format, and its repercussions on representations and stereotypes about women, especially in the secretarial work. As an object, it exams the book The secretary, published in Brazil in 1968. The analysis was carried out in Semiotics perspective, in the relation among sign, object and meaning; and of Linguistics, in the fictional narrative expression. It was also considered the dialogue with the Cultural History presuppositions in a view of the analysis of the meanings incorporated and occasioned on the social world based on these readings. The examination of the roman-feuilleton indicates a constituent discourse of morigeration intentions for women's role in society.
