Abstract
In 2024, we will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the publication of Gêneros Orais e Escritos na Escola [Oral and Written Genres in School] by Bernard Schneuwly and Joaquim Dolz, translated and organized by Roxane Rojo and Glaís Sales Cordeiro. This work has significantly impacted Brazil, notably in Portuguese language teaching, textual production, orality, multimodality, and teacher education. The proposal for didactic sequences has influenced curriculum development and pedagogical practices and has inspired a broad academic output. This thematic dossier invites reflections on the legacy of the work and brings together research on the advancements and challenges in teaching textual genres in Brazil, highlighting its methodological innovations and its importance for Brazilian education.
