Portuguese Language Teaching and Discursive Genres: A Humanizing Education Proposal in Pandemic Times

Abstract

This article discusses the Portuguese language teaching and the mobilization of discursive genres starting from a project methodology. The proposal focuses on studies carried out by Paulo Freire (1987, 1992, 1994, 1997) and scholars of Critical Applied Linguistics (CAL) (PENNYCOOK; MAKONI, 2020), as well as Bakhtin (1992a, 1992b), to emphasize a critical linguistic education in pandemic times. Our research presents a humanizing education proposal through a reading workshop project carried out with first semester’s students of a technology school college in State of São Paulo. We privilege the mobilization of project methodology through discursive and multimodal genres in Portuguese language classes. The results point out to evidences that confirms the presence of positive attitudes and imparted reflection inside the groups involved on the project, although it is clear that, in education, there must be an inspiring human figure alongside technology.
