The operation of symptomatic speech beyond the distinction normal/pathological: Saussurian contributions

Abstract:

This article questions the statute of the distinction normal/pathological in the scope of language disorders' research. Therefore, the manuscript develops a reflexion about linguistic characterization of the symptomatic speeches based on saussurian's theoretical assumptions. From Ferdinand de Saussure (1974)SAUSSURE, Ferdinand de. Curso de lingüística geral. São Paulo: Cultrix, 1974., notions of Language, Langue and Parole, the value theory and the speech circuit will be considered. Two data sets were analyzed, which showed that the opposition normal/pathological does not support the linguistic interpretation of the involved phenomena in these cases. In this way, the study showed elements that allow us to think about the singularity of the language operations, starting with the referred saussurian notions, without the necessity of standardization in the normal/pathological dichotomous classification.
