BRAZILIAN BLACK MOVEMENT: FROM DENUNCIATION TO RACIAL EQUALITY POLICIES

Abstract:

This study aims to map some aspects of the path the Brazilian Black movement took in its contemporary phase. It assumes the change in the movement’s perspective toward the State. If many Black activists were reluctant to focus on the public administration apparatus up to the 1980s, institutionality became the privileged arena the movement used to fight for the development of policies focused on racial equality in the 1990s and especially in the early third millennium. Such a change in perspective impacted public recognition and redistribution policies.
