Democracy and efficiency: the public choice theory

The way in which the emphasis of public choice theory on managerial efficiency through the development of the bureaucratic organization conflicts with the political dimension of social life, specially in its democratic variant, is examined. Democracy and efficiency are incompatible, it is argued; they are brought apart by re-distributive issues.
