HISTORICAL AND DIALECTICAL MATERIALISM: BETWEEN APPROXIMATIONS AND TENSIONS

Abstract

The article aims to dialogue with the axiological and methodological assumptions of historical and dialectical materialism, and it is divided into two parts. The first one concerns the understanding about this method in central and intertwined axes of Marx’s work (critique of political economy, conditions for the emergence of capitalism, revolutionary process and class struggle). The second part proposes a comparative and non-watertight analysis of possible tensions and approximations with respect to Durkheimian and Weberian methodological choices, especially regarding the precedence between individual and society, as well as the researchers’ biases and the relations between scientific knowledge and political action.
