Because economical equality seemed inevitable to them, classical marxists devoted more of their energies to the problem of how to bring it about than they did to the issue of justifying equality as a norm. However, the factual premises on which this inevitability belief was based either do not obtain anymore or have proved to be erroneous. Therefore, the socialist advocacy today requires much more moral argument than it seemed necessary to classical marxists.
