Legitimacy, justice and democracy: Rawls's new contractarianism

The author argues why John Rawls's Political Liberalism is a turning point in the tradition of Contractarian thought. Some reasons are given to show that the focus on justice, rather than legitimacy (including democratic legitimacy), has brought conceptual innovations to Contractarianism, in which classical topics of political theory face intricate problems of moral justification.
