Recognition, between justice and identity

This article approaches the recent debate between Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser, the focus of which being to determine the reach and the limits of recognition as a perspective for the analysis of modern Western societies. Those authors discuss the main aspects of the theory of recognition, its sources, the philosophical and political topics, the construction of a social theory and the assumptions for a theory of justice. Both intend - but each on his/her own way - to establish a critical position about the contemporary social struggles, elaborate the place of culture in capitalist societies, and think about standards of justice.
