WHAT THE “ARCHIVES OF IMPERIALISM” TEACH US ABOUT THE PHENOMENON OF DEFECTION OF CUBAN ATHLETES DURING THE COLD WAR

Abstract

This study proposes a historical reconstruction of the defection of Cuban athletes during the Cold War. By consulting and analyzing secret documents produced by the US intelligence services, recently made available in digital collections of CIA and the National Archives, we conclude that this phenomenon was systematically and intentionally driven by CIA agents and Cuban-american groups living in the United States.
