Abstract
In this article I present part of the results obtained in my PhD research entitled “Why Fanon? Why now? Frantz Fanon and fanonisms in Brazil.” I analyze critically the hypothesis of a possible contact or influence between Fanon and some intellectuals connected to the Associação Cultural do Negro (ACN) in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I argue that the feasibility of a possible face-to-face meeting between them-in the context of the Second Congress of Black Artists and Writers (Rome, 1959)-would not suffice to infer an affinity of ideas or even influence, given the different positions they occupied in the spectrum of the black movement. Lastly, I discuss the context in which the ideas of his poem thrived and their effect and particularities on Brazilian reception.
