Abstract
This work aims at examining the relationships between the theme of the image regarding the psychoanalytical clinic and the remarkable approach that Machado de Assis provides for our relationship with the world of mirrors, a world where desire becomes transparent and conceals itself at the same time. Jealousy inDom Casmurro, the short stories "O espelho" and "Uns braços" records both the game of writing and its various modes in his fiction, where a lesson on style is weaved while addressing the object that causes desire.
