This paper examines the insertion of the novel Iaiá Garcia, by Machado de Assis, in the materiality of the newspaper O Cruzeiro. Based on the editorial line of this newspaper, it investigates the implications of integrating the novel with the set of discourses, ideological conceptions and marketing factors that form the plural unity of the newspaper's materiality. This confluence between the literary text and its material composition results in particular ways of literary enjoyment, determined by reading practices, categories of readers and horizons of expectation that prevail in this production context.
