Abstract:
Paying attention to the construction of the images of the author over time, I propose the inadequacy of the procedures that intend to rescue the “real Machado de Assis’. By discussing certain strides in the criticism, photographs, posts, and a recent film, I connect the Machadian perspective with Fred Moten’s propositions on the oscillating nature of the Black struggle, and Eduardo de Assis Duarte’s propositions on Machado’s indirect treatment of history.
