Abstract
Until 2022, only two indigenous federal deputies had ever been elected in Brazil: Mário Juruna (in 1982) and Joênia Wapixana (in 2018). 2022 thus marked a historic milestone, with a record number of indigenous candidacies and the election of important leaders such as Célia Xakriabá and Sônia Guajajara. Here, we publish three speeches by Célia Xakriabá, recorded during events of her pre-campaign for federal deputy in the state of Minas Gerais. Our publication testifies to the central role played by indigenous women in the progressive struggles of Brazil and in Brazilian institutional politics.
