Retirement talk

In the 2013 inaugural lecture of the PPGAS/ Museu Nacional, the author sought to realize a sort of "account" of his activities since he left the institution upon his retirement. He focused mostly on his activities as a conference participant, highlighting certain topics, such as the critique of historicism and eurocentrism, and returning to the classic theme of the relations between history and anthropology and of the opposition between universalism and relativism. To this end, he made use of a non-Western (mostly Indian) bibliography in the belief that this resource would enable the re-launching of "another West", that would represent recessive elements of that civilization, as well as allowing a revision of concepts inherited from the 19th and 20th centuries.
