coffee productive spacial circuit and the game of scales

Since the 90s, the adoption of neoliberal ideology and politics caused major changes in the productive dynamics and agent’s relations in the Brazilian coffee productive spacial circuits. Changes in the role of the state allowed the increase of power and action scale of large companies like traders and roasters vis-à-vis small coffee growers. Thus, this article aim to analyze power relations in the coffee productive spacial circuits and the geographical scales of action of its agents. It begins by a theoretical discussion about the definition and articulation of the concepts of productive spacial circuits and geographical scales. After that, it analyze the ascendancy of corporate regulation and alternative production of specialty coffee developed by some producers.
