the myth of the "anthropic factor" in the environmental geographic discourse

Abstract

This paper presents a critical evaluation of how environmental issues are being handled in geography when guided in the discourse of human intervention. Much of geographical studies about the natural framework and environmental problems have been unable to comprehend the man in the production of geographic space without subordinating to a antinomian view concerning the nature in which it is only one of its elements among others, leaving no scope therefore to historical and social determinations concerning the production of the geographic space. It contributes to this conception equivocal speech ecological environment that reduces the dialectic between society and nature to a mere human intervention in the natural frame, restricting the whole historical process of the social production of nature and geographical space to an "anthropic factor."
