Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the environmental quality of the Santa Cruz district, in the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Bahia State (BA), Brazil, through the perceptive approach guided by the principles of the phenomenological method. Environmental quality is in part considered object of human perception and thus subjective. Results showed among other things that the investigated individuals generally perceive in a clear and intense way the neighborhood aspects related to infrastructure, social issues, and public health. The issues related to improper disposal of solid waste, open sewers, afforestation absence, noise, and air pollution are poorly perceived or not perceived as problems that plague the neighborhood, maybe because they are not priority for these people who have most urgent needs, especially related to labor/employment, housing, health, and safety.
