local power, ideology and social representations

This paper presents the eminently sociological concepts of power, local power, ideology and social representations in their interrelations with geographical studies. The proposal is therefore to approach these concepts as possible ways of reading through the bias of geography, demonstrating that the production, organisation and planning of the territory could take place in accordance with ideologies and representations created about itself by various forms of power, from the most directly visible to those which are perceived only symbolically. However, in order to make this approach possible, discourse is used as a category and an element by which forms of appropriation of the territory are aggregated and facilitated on different scales and in different analysis periods on the understanding that it can strengthen or bring about the decline of the socio-economic changes imposed on or demanded by the territory.
