Gender studies in Physical Education

This research aimed to present some aspects of the theoretical framework of Gender Studies in Physical Education (PE) in Brazil: their theoric trends, frequent topics, gaps, research groups, intellectuals in CNPq, and the books about Gender and PE. The literature shows that the Gender studies in PE began in the 1980 decade. It is organized into three central trends: Marxist, Culturalist, and post-structuralist. They approach topics as: learning methodologies in scholar PE; stereotypes in body practices; inclusion and exclusion practices in PE; Women's History in sport; Social representations about gender in sport media; Women in manager's position in sport; and Gender identities in sport. These studies have approached mainly women, presenting some theoric gaps. We identified 14 books about Gender in PE literature, research groups consolidated, intellectuals with doctor's degree in area, and a relevant number of thesis and dissertations.
