Abstract
Ableism, being structural, pervades the lives of people with disabilities in all social contexts. This essay aims to reflect on the role of sport for people with disabilities in the anti-ableist campaign. It dialogues with approaches and understandings about disability and exposes social representations in sports, often guided by the media, which can reinforce the ableist view in sports and society. The development of parasports must urgently rely on conceptions about disability that deconstruct the normalization of bodies and see sport as a human right.
