Abstract
This essay aims to reflect on studies on body philosophy and history in Brazil and France in 1970-1990, considering data from thesis and publications by some pioneers in the field of Physical Education and STAPS. We discuss the scenario of the production of knowledge on the body from the perspective of two disciplines that communicate mutually - History and Philosophy - and that influenced studies, research, academic and professional training in the area of Physical Education in both the countries.
