ABSTRACT
Vicente do Rego Monteiro is considered one of the most important painters of Brazilian modernism. His reputation, however, came only after his death in 1970. Considering his artistic and political positions, the article reconstruct the trajectory of the painter and explores some possibles reasons for Vicente do Rego Monteiro’s death in oblivion.
