ABSTRACT
In his short story “Tapiiraiauara,” Guimarães Rosa portrays a hunting scene in which a tapir’s life and diplomacy issues are at stake. Based on the cosmopolitics debate, the analysis of the story reveals problems related both to Amerindian Tupi-Guarani perspectives and Brazilian Modernismo, especially regarding the symbolism of some animals that appear in the clash between “anthropophagic” cosmopolitans and verde--amarelo nationalist group.
