Although there are numerous definitions for the regulatory activities in health, this theoretical study defines health regulation as a complex and dynamic action that handles a plurality of perspectives in situations of deep uncertainty. This action involves different tools and methodologies with the purpose of defending public interest. From this perspective, the study's objective is to discuss the theoretical and methodological contributions of the Post-Normal Science to such regulation. The Post-Normal Science approach consists of design management of complex issues relating to the science–policy interface. This approach highlights certain aspects that traditional science tends to ignore, such as the uncertainties, the weight values in decision making, and the plurality of legitimate perspectives. Thus, this study concludes that the incorporation of conceptual and methodological strategies of the Post-Normal Science is highly relevant for regulatory activity, by integrating health and political epistemology to extend the quality of regulatory decisions.
