From the conceptual ideas of Chandler and Penrose, it will be examined the firm’s growth movement, defined by the confrontation of change and resistance forces. In this perspective, it could be developed four analysis tools to provide knowledge of the firm’s growth dynamics. In order to facilitate the comprehension and use of the tools, the work illustrates the methodology using the Standard Oil/Exxon case.
