Estratégia de internacionalização, complexidade estrutural e integração normativa em organizações: estudo de caso

This paper examines changes in the dimension of complexity of organizational structure and also in the mechanisms of normative integration as resulting il from the internationalization process of Embraco - a Brazilian company running business in manufacturing compressors. It was observed three basic strategies in the process of internationalization of Embraco, during a nine years period: from 1989 to 1997. These three basic strategies encompass diverse circumstances during company's internationalization process which have affected its structural configuration mainly through job creation and through implementation of organizational reestructuring projects. In terms of normative integration, changes took place through improvement of existing mechanisms of socialization, such as: values dissemination programs, employees transfer, communication among organizational units, interchange programs, and job rotation. It is concluded that modifications in the structural configuration of Embraco have followed strategy changes in the process of internationalization of the company.
