This study analyzes the succession process in familiar companies. The case of Indústrias Filizola S.A., centennial familiar company established in 1886, South American leader in the production of mechanical am:l electronic scales was analyzed. This organization arrives at the third succession process on its history in conditions to keep it self competitive and active in the market. The conclusions of thls study point that the succession in Brazilian familiar companies follows a model centered in the family and that such option can still be efficient in the survival of these organizations.
