Control of sorghum seedborne fungi and protection against soilborne fungi through fungicide seed treatment

This work was carried out in order to evaluate the efficiency of several fungicides applied as seed dressing in the control of sorghum seed-borne fungi and the protection against soil-borne fungi. The seed-borne fungi Fusarium moniliforme, Penicillium spp., Alternaria tenuis, Cladosporium spp., Phoma sorghina and the soil-borne fungi Pythium aphanidermatum and Sclerotium rolfsii were pathogenic to sorghum seeds cultivar CMS 182R. The fungicides captan, thiram, captan + thiabendazole, thiram + thiabendazole, iprodione + thiram and tolylfluanid were the most efficient in the control of Fusarium moniliforme, Penicillium spp., Alternaria tenuis, Cladosporium spp., and Phoma sorghina associated to the seeds, as well as in the protection of the seeds against the soilborne organisms Pythium aphanidermatum and Sclerotium rolfsii.
