Adolescence and parental divorce: relationship continuity and rupture

The goal of this article is to present a scientific literature revision about the relationship between parents and children in the divorce context, focusing on reactions, experiences, conceptions and feelings, particularly those of teenagers. First, we present a general revision on divorce studies, followed by researches that specifically associate adolescence and family transitions. Most of the studies highlight the importance of parental quality and maintenance of the relationship between parents and sons/daughters after separation. The repercussion that continuities and ruptures have on the relationship between parents and sons/daughters is discussed.
