Scientometrics was used to analyze the literature on journals from Health Science and related areas in Portal de Periódicos da Capes, aiming at providing support for the alignment of Public Policies for S&T, characterize the literature, and to produce instructional material for bibliographic searches. It was concluded that there is an excessive amount of duplicated scientific journals, the national literature is underrepresented, disproportion between the amount of titles subscribed in different subjects, insufficiency of titles in some areas; and also the inability of Qualis/Capes System to classify scientific journals.
