DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS AND WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: A PROPOSAL FOR A CONCEPTUAL MODEL

ABSTRACT

Sustainability is an important topic for society and has three main dimensions, environmental, social and economic. In this context, among the threatened common goods, water emerges as the main resource surrounded by uncertainties regarding its availability. To manage water resources, data and information are important to assist in the decision-making process. Thus, two Information and Communication Technologies can be useful for creating a Decision Support System (DSS), the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data. Therefore, the objective of this work is to propose a conceptual model that represents a DSS that uses Information and Communication Technologies with the purpose of providing information and subsidies to assist the decision-making process in the management of water resources. The methodology used was characterized as exploratory and qualitative in nature. As a result, the DSS conceptual model was presented based on information management and the Organizational and Competitive Intelligence cycle. It can be concluded that the proposed SAD depends on information dispersed in the river basins and the capture can be done by IoT sensor networks using Big Data to analyze them historically and make future projections.
