Psychology in Brazil: Formation and Institutionalisation

Abstract:

This summary traces the trajectory of the Psychology developed in Europe and the States throughout modern times and appropriated by Brazilian doctors in the 19th century and by educators at the beginning of the 20th. It seeks to point out the interest in the discipline from different fields and institutions that have developed over the years, such as its use in organizations, childcare, the Armed Forces, physical education, etc., as well as the growing training of professionals, its scientific and academic institutionalization, the regulation of the profession, and the Council system. This process highlights a model of the autonomous individual without social ties. It points to the most recent changes that have been brought about and which constitute new subjects and new proposals for understanding the human being. For this, it uses various studies and works already published by the author.
