What to Learn from the STF Decision on Psychological Tests?

Abstract

This theoretical article aims to reflect upon psychologists’ reception to the decision of the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) regarding the 3481 Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (DAU), which deemed as unconstitutional the restriction on the commercialization of psychological tests. The article is anchored in three argumentative paths, including the creation of the Psychological Testing Assessment System (Satepsi), in 2003; the contextualization of the contributions of psychology entities, especially those from the field of psychological assessment, aiming to improve and defend this field; and by a thematic analysis of comments made to the Instagram profile of the Federal Council of Psychology from March 6th to March 22nd, 2021 - when the first news on the SC decision were published. From this argumentative path, we understand that the interest in psychological tests involves the recognition of these instruments qualification over the years. However, such recognition was not necessarily accompanied by a professional training qualification that would allow a maturation in the understanding of the psychological assessment process.
