Psychology and the Justice System: Challenges and Commitments

Abstract:

This study seeks to problematize the relation between psychology and the justice systemjs based on historical reflections, struggles, commitments, andcontemporary issues for future prospects. Regarding Ringhistorical issues, we have considereded some analysis that highlight the challenges psychology has faced in this field since its initial approaches. For this, in addition to a theoretical debate, we have selected 16 documents – resolutions and technical refences and notes – produced by the Federal Council of Psychology as a guide to the best ethical-political way in the profession. Regarding contemporary challenges, which involve current and future issues, we listed the racial issue and the insertion of technologies into the justice jsystem. We conclude that the articulation of psychology with the legal system concerns the judiciary, spreading across countless practices and themes of the work of psychology, showing the importance of maintaining the construction of its know-how in a broad territory of confrontations.
