Occupational tress and inferential reasoning: a correlational study

The aim of this study was to test the relation between stress and inferential reasoning, sex and age. The instruments used in this assessment were the escala de vulnerabilidade a estressores no trabalho (EVET), and raciocínio inferencial (Rin). 64 students of Psychology and Engineering, who attended a private school on the interior of the state of São Paulo, participated in the study, 81,2% men and 18,8% women, whose age varied from 18 to 45 years (M=24, SD=5,78). Related to the factors of EVET, it was found a significant and negative correlation between the factor three (lack of organizational support) and inferential reasoning. The results showed a significant and negative correlation between EVET and Rin (r =-0,25; p=0,047), considered as an evidence of validity for EVET. The tendering indicated that the higher the level of stress, the lesser the capacity related to the g factor.
