Learning to be a psychotherapist

This study aims at investigating, according to Jacob Levy Moreno’s perspective, the conception of Psychology students about what a psychotherapist is, what elements, as basic requirements, are needed for the development of this task and the factors that may hinder the performance of this activity. The study proposes different solutions for the fulfillment of this task, providing reflection about its importance and the responsibility given to the psychotherapist when dealing with the patient. The methodology used is the qualitative approach as it allows working with different dimensions of the patients’ subjectivity. The results show that students have, as their own concepts, the basic foundations according to the indicators mentioned by Moreno and other authors. They also notice the basic requirements that compose the role of a psychotherapist, highlight realistic criticism about the limiting factors and suggest pedagogical actions in order to reduce them.
